Amazon S3 Storing 29 Billion Objects
S3 is a mighty river serving a teeming, impenetrable mass of digital objects. Seven of those 29 billion objects were added last summer alone.
But will it scale? And should it?
S3 is a pretty juicy target for anyone who wants to access the files that people and organizations care about. I’m VERY interested in seeing the internal controls that Amazon has to keep their admins honest. I’m VERY interested in seeing independent source audits of their entire infrastructure (including their public key infrastructure).
And if it turns out that all private S3 buckets and objects can be accessed by any one user, then I’m going to say that user has too much power. How has Amazon made their network resistant to the human element?
